The Impacts of Signaling Time on the Performance of Fast Handovers for MIPv6

چکیده
A Fast Handover protocol (FMIPv6) in IETF working group is proposed to reduce the handover latency in Mobile IPv6 standard protocol. The FMIPv6 proposes some procedures for fast movement detection and fast binding update to minimize the handover latency. Additionally, to reduce the lost packets caused by a handover, this protocol introduces buffers in access routers. However, the handover latency or the amount of lost packets are affected by the time to send signals such as Fast Binding Update message for the fast handover. In this paper, we inspect the impacts of the signaling time on packet loss and handover latency in FMIPv6 through the numerical analysis, we propose the optimal signaling time to improve the performance of FMIPv6 in terms of the handover latency and lost packets.

RFC 5949 Proxy - Based Fast Handover
Mobile IPv6 (MIPv6; RFC 3775) provides a mobile node with IP mobility when it performs a handover from one access router to another, and fast handovers for Mobile IPv6 (FMIPv6) are specified to enhance the handover performance in terms of latency and packet loss. While MIPv6 (and FMIPv6 as well) requires the participation of the mobile node in the mobility-related signaling, Proxy Mobile IPv6 (...

Hierarchical Mobile IPv6 (HMIPv6) is a protocol that enhances Mobile IPv6 (MIPv6) with faster handovers. Neither HMIPv6 nor MIPv6 provides ways to authenticate roaming mobile nodes, although visited networks will need to check if mobile nodes can be authorized access. A solution is required before MIPv6 can be commonly deployed. Mechanisms to integrate Mobile IPv4 and the Diameter protocol for ...
متن کاملA Fast Handover Scheme for Multicasting in IPv6 based Mobile Ad hoc Networks
Problem statement: In the previous researches, steps were taken to resolve the problems of multicasting, after several discussions. Actually these issues were raised, while multicasting packets from Internet Protocol (IP) to Mobile Nodes (MN). On the other hand, there is very little concern about the problem of packet loss reduction. Sometimes the occurrence of multicast service chaos is ignore...
متن کاملMulticast Listener Extensions for Mobile IPv6 (MIPv6) and Proxy Mobile IPv6 (PMIPv6) Fast Handovers
Fast handover protocols for Mobile IPv6 (MIPv6) and Proxy Mobile IPv6 (PMIPv6) define mobility management procedures that support unicast communication at reduced handover latency. Fast handover base operations do not affect multicast communication and, hence, do not accelerate handover management for native multicast listeners. Many multicast applications like IPTV or conferencing, though, com...

In next generation all-IP based networks, a large number of mobile nodes are expected to use MIPv6 protocol for mobility. In mobile environment one frequent cause of service disruption is handovers. When MN moves, at some point MN will reach the physical border of its current wireless network and will enter an area covered by another wireless network. In such a situation, MN must switch to the ...
